Recent years, non-metallic industry develops quickly all over the world, Its products play more and more important role in metallurgy, environmental protection, energy conservation, medicine, light industry, petrochemical, textile and other industries. At the same time, it has been successfully used in information technology, microelectronics, avigation & spaceflight and other high-tech fields, and rational development & utilization non-metallic mineral resources have become the focus of national government attention.

China is not only an abundant non-metallic mineral resources country but also a big production and import country. Since reforming and opening, especially the entry of WTO, China society and economy has had a great change, which creates an tremendous opportunity and markert for various industries including non-metallic mineral industry.

However, the whole level of China non-metallic industry is not higher, it still has a big gap in some fields Comparing with the developed countries, such as in basic theory research of non-metallic characteristic, mine production deep-processing, new type processing equipment research and application, new functioning or structuring materials research etc.
